As pavements age, they are subjected to many stresses that deteriorate their performance. Cracks are one of the most common and serious pavement problems. They usually form as a result of thermal expansion, aging, and reflection of cracks from underlying layers. Left untreated, cracks will create serious problems that decrease the pavement’s lifespan. Regular maintenance plays a significant role in the preservation of any pavement infrastructure. Hot-applied, rubberized asphalt crack sealants are designed to seal cracks and minimize the penetration of water into the base below the pavement. Hot-applied crack sealants have been shown to be cost-effective in preventing further damage to pavement and greatly extending pavement’s life expectancy.
